Old Doggy
Getting old is hard for us humans and it’s just as hard on our pets. It’s not pleasant to think about a future without our beloved dogs but it’s something that we must prepare ourselves for.
Sadie was born in February 1996. She’s 11 years old and it’s showing. Her teeth are loose, her hair is falling out, she can’t jump up on our bed, she can’t seem to hold her urine for extended periods like she used to, and she’s just an old lady. But, on-the-other-hand, she’s still got a pep in her step, she eats, she drinks and evacuates her poop chute without issue.
It’s really hard to envision life without Sadie and I hope that it doesn’t happen for a long, long time. Reality of it is, though, that she’s gonna die -sooner than later- because lately she’s been panting a lot and her breathing is labored. I’m going to the vet (with our other dog, next Monday, for her spaying) and will make an appointment for Sadie then. This new issue worries me a bit a lot. Either she’s asthmatic, is in congestive heart failure or has heartworms. I really hope that it’s asthma. Although, none of them are great, especially at her age. It just really sucks. She’ll always be our faithful old dog; the one who is always with us, at our feet, watching our ever move. It just really sucks that she had to age.
There’s one positive thing: I found an enzymatic toothpaste that REALLY helps her stank-ass breath!

:( Oh Sadie Girl! This saddens me, as it’s always hard to think of that time in our lives when our pets are no longer with us.
