“I’m Shutting Mama Down”
I’m being shaken down, folks. My 9 year old son is (in his words) “shutting [Mama] down”, next week. If I do not pay him $1.00 each week for dishwasher duty he is done. He’s informed me that the first few months were free and now I have to pay. Who’s teaching him this rubbish?
He turns to his sister and goes, “If you were smart you’d do the same thing for laundry duty.”
“Yeah, Mama, we’re shutting you down next week,” he goaded.
“Time for Mikey to make green!”
Hmmmmmmmm…
HA! Shut me down, kid! Your Grandmother will be here. Bwahahahhahahhahhahha! I’ll get her to do dishwasher AND laundry duty. So there. Pfffft.

Be afraid that kid is a negotiator!!
Your kids are TOO smart and you are SO in trouble!!
Oh, you are screwed!
can your kids come and teach my kids how to empty the dishwasher…i’ll pay him $5/time!
That is a smart boy that you have there…maybe to smart??
Oh and I tagged you for a story meme if you feel up to it :)
Mama doesn’t charge him for washing his clothes and cooking his meals and driving him places. It’s sad, I think, when kids lose sight of the fact that they are an important part of the family and that their dad and mom need them to be contributing, according to their abilities, to the family work.
If son isn’t joking, I can think of some pretty sneaky things Mama can do to help him look at the situation from another point of view. :P
Joyce: That’s exactly what I told him! I do believe he’s joking. We’re not doing the “I’ll pay you for this or that”. A chore is a chore, and everyone in the family has them! The first part of your response is my sentiment, exactly!
kids are annoyingly funny. aren’t they?
You said it, pmnr!! LOL
Did you know you had a union household or did they organize behind your back?
I swear, I hear the same at my house except, they all want raises. Even me.
My husband told me once that if I worked for him, he would fire me. The funny thing is…the joke’s on him because if I got fired I’d go find a better job. Hahahaha
patois: They organized behind my back. No, he gathered his thoughts and then assaulted.. LOL We had a talk this morning about everyone pulling weight. And, that if he wanted a $1.00 a week, that was fine, but it was not going to be given for chores completed. Chores are non-negotiable. ;)
MS: I don’t know if I could find another job that will let me blog as much!
