Post-Christmas Hoopla!
Lots of HOOPLA behind the cut! You know you wanna….
This is a Christmas hoopla from Sandy at Momisodes via Andie at Andie Summerkiss. (ps. it’s what we are calling it now. m-word is out of the picture!)
—————————————————-
The rules:
1. List 12 random things about yourself that have to do with Christmas
2. Please refer to it as a ‘hoopla’ and not the dreaded ‘m’-word
3. You have to specifically tag people when you’re done. None of this “if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged” stuff is allowed…then nobody ends up actually doing it. The number of people who you tag is really up to you — but the more, the merrier to get this ‘hoopla’ circulating through the Blog-o-sphere.
4. Please try and do it as quickly as possible. The Christmas season will be over before we know it.
—————————————————-
1) We celebrate two Christmases as we are Macedonian Orthodox. So, on January 7th, we’ll celebrate by putting something little in the kids’ stockings. I’m also going to look into taking them to a local Orthodox church since we will not be “home” for the holiday.
2) I recall my first Christmas with Michael in 1994, to a tee!
3) Back in the late 90’s, when we fell on hard times, I had several online friends send us gifts for Mikey and Olivia. Because of that I try to help out a family -either online or off- that needs the “Santa Spirit” in their lives.
4) I’ve been pregnant for three Christmases out of thirty-three.
5) Michael and I had a real tree on our first Christmas, and not another since.
6) My mom traditionally made a big dinner for family and friends on Christmas Eve, as it was a Saint Day that my father’s family celebrated back in Macedonia.
7) I remember finding my presents one year, in the basement, and actually looking at them. I was sad that Christmas and never searched for them again. I told the kids, this year, that if they searched and found that the only punishment would be the disappointment of the lack of surprise.
8.) When I was little, I used to fall asleep, on the couch, with a camera in hand (I’m ever the photographer, I guess). I never got that picture of Santa.
9) One of my favorite gifts, as a teen, was my leather bomber jacket. That thing was. too. effin. cool. for. words.
10) My dad usually worked on the 25th, so my mom, grandmother, and I managed to keep a little tradition of Chinese food and a movie for a few years in the early 90’s. I still recall seeing “Father of the Bride” with them, howling in laughter, and eating movie popcorn mixed with Sour Patch Kids.
11) Last year I was so pregnant on Christmas that I was totally uncomfortable. I took a four hour nap that day!
12) This Christmas was the first one, that I can remember as an adult, that my father was there. Since he usually worked (because who can turn down holiday-time-and-a-half pay?), and we celebrated more on the 7th, it wasn’t a big deal. But, retrospectively it is a big deal. It was nice to see him experience Christmas morning with our kids!
I’m tagging: PATOIS, HEIDI, and PIPER
Then… I was tagged for another Christmas “Hoopla” (aka Meme) by Maddy at Whitterer on Autism. Maddy thinks I have some elves helping me post over here. I assured her that it’s just crazy-ole-moi!
Best Childhood Gift:
She was such a good friend. I took her everywhere. My grandparents gave her to me, and I remember loving her for a long time. She was three feet tall. Her eyes closed when she was laid down. Her hair was silky and her dress was made of pink velor. My friend was named Annabelle and she was a doll. It’s one toy that I remember receiving and cherishing for a long time. Even after I had moved on from stuffed animals and dollies, I kept her in my room. I was very respectful of her and always laid her down at night, with a blanket. Annabelle was a good friend, it was the least I could do.
Best Adulthood Gift:
It would have to be… David Alexander! He was born three days after Christmas, but he was born healthy and safe. Being my fourth baby, I worried that I would have to have a c-section or that something might go wrong. Thank God nothing major happened outside of his PICU stay due to him being so large (11lbs 14oz). David’s my best gift ever. He completes our family.

Very nice to learn more about one of my favorite bloggers in the blogosphere.
Thanks for the Christmas wishes on my blog….Santa brought me sickness this Christmas, so today is my first trip out of bed in a bit.
I got to play with Littlest Pet Shop though with Micheyla.
Wow! That’s a lotta Christmas hoopla! Very nicely done!
(And I wanted a leather bomber jacket so bad when I was a teenager! Instead I got something that resembled a Member’s Only jacket. Lame!!!)
Opa! The 7th? I get the 6th for Epiphany, but the 7th? Are you on the Julian calendar?
Holly, yes, the 7th according to the Julian calendar!
