Weekend Update

I wish I had another weekend. This one flew right by. It was the second weekend of Michael’s off rotation, but the first full weekend he was home, no thanks to that smelly fish cake dispatcher. Let it go, Mishelle, let it go.

The highlight of the end-of-the-week and the weekend was the snow. Georgia actually got snow. It was even enough snow for snowmen to be created. Olivia kicked off our neighborhood’s “Snowman Fest ’08″, then her pal from across the street built one, and today we discovered that the little old lady that lives next door made -not one, but- two! The one closer to her house even has a carrot and a hat.

The lowlight of the weekend was Olivia getting sick.

“Mama, did I get sick because I played outside?”

“I don’t know, baby, did you eat any of the snow?”

“I did lick an icicle.”

“Oh baby, I think that’s what did it!”

“Reeeeeeeeally?”

“No, baby, I’m just joking.”

“Mama”

/laughter (I. so. bad.)

I was sleeping with the baby when she woke me up with the classic “Mama I don’t feel so good.”

Michael didn’t want to disturb us, seeing as Davey had a bad night of sleep the previous night, so he was camped out on the couch. I made sure Davey was barricaded with pillows, and walked into our bathroom with her. She was white as a ghost and her main complaint was that her stomach felt icky. She was also burning up. So, I washed her face with cold water and we stayed hovered over the toilet bowl for a few minutes. I was rubbing her back, and suddenly she said, “Mama, I don’t feel so good. I’m…i’m…fa…aalll…ing,” and my arms caught her and I gently laid her on the bathroom floor.

She totally fainted, and I was totally worried. She came to just as quickly as she went out.   I helped her up and I was leading her to my bed, she passed out again. This time I grew even more concerned. I laid her on her side (in case she might vomit) and went to the stairs to call for Michael. I turned around to see she had already thrown up, and was sitting up looking quite confused.  As we got her cleaned up, she threw up again, so we cleaned her up some more, got her showered and changed, and set up on the other couch to sleep.  What a night.  The most comforting thing, though, was listening to Livey and her Papa talk in the dark.  I thought it was sweet.

She’s much better now. No fevers. No vomiting. No nothing. Now I am just waiting for the boys to possibly get struck with this “virus”. I hope not, though.

So, as a result, Saturday was spent very low-key. More snow fell, and the kids wanted (read: begged) to play outside, but I wouldn’t let them. I mean, come on, they’ve played in FEET of snow before. Feet. This was just a couple of inches!

Michael got out for a bit to pick up his dry cleaning, get in some range time, and go to see [the bunk ass hairdresser] for a haircut. Yes, I’m still bitter about my hair, thankyouverymuch.  I even went so far as to forbid Michael from going to her.   Yeah, that worked.  In his defense, (the rest spoken in monotone) she. does. cut. his. hair. perfectly.   Whatever. She’s still bunk, and no wonder I’ve never seen a woman in her chair before, but I digress.

Now it’s Sunday night and soon we’ll retire. Not before Michael packs up his bags in preparation for tomorrow, though. Yes, tomorrow is the Monday I hate; the Monday that Michael goes to work.

Some of the sting *might* be taken away if we meet Mo and her duo for lunch tomorrow. A good Mexican lunch cures a lot, doesn’t it?! I think it does.

It’s eleven o’clock. Do you know where your children are?

I do. They’re in bed, and that’s just where I’m about to go.

Telling her she got sick from an icicle… If I thought that would stop my kids from chowing down on snow I would… Up here is Chicago… A little snow, but BELOW ZERO temps… Joy!!!

That sounds like the kind of illness that needs to stay the heck out of my house. It can stay out of everyone’s house, for what it matters.

Let’s hope it was just the icicle.

And keep that icicle away from everyone else!

My husband and I went away for the weekend. We drove a few hours, checked into our beautiful hotel, and then the babysitter called and said our youngest was sick. We hadn’t even been there 15 minutes. Sigh…

I hope everyone in your house is better now!
