Sunday Scribbling: Miscellaneous
S U N D A Y S C R I B B L I N G
mis·cel·la·ne·ous [mis-uh-ley-nee-uh
s] adjective
| 1. |
consisting of members or elements of different kinds; of mixed character |
| 2. |
having various qualities, aspects, or subjects |
In reading, and re-reading, this definition, I have come to the realization that my life can be classified as “miscellaneous”. There’s not one thing that characterizes my being. All the qualities that I embody, and the aspects of my life, come together to form the person that I am. That’s why I always find it hard to write an “about me” section. I can list parts of who I am, but none of them define me!
I think that’s good; a good way to be. I don’t just want to be known as Mishelle the wife, or the mama, or the home schooler, or the friend, or the daughter, or the photographer, or the blogger, or the comedienne, or the short-order cook, or the neighbor, or the, or the, or the, or the, or the……
My miscellaneous life can be categorized, but I don’t let it. I’m content with being a hodge-podge of a person. Maybe that’s what makes my life interesting and not so mundane?

When I was a kid my dad had a grocery store.
I was always Nick’s daughter.
It was hard because I felt that was the only identity I had for a long time.
Now I’ve filed those feelings under miscellaneous, and when I walk through the old neigborhood, and someone says I look familar I tell them I am Nick’s daughter.
The rest of the time though I am Frances.
Thanks for sharing.

What a great piece — tis true — we are so much more than just one or two things — and it is a wise person who knows that we can’t be classified into categories!

I hate being “put in a box” too. I quite understand where you’re coming from. Being known as only one of those things isn’t enough for me either.

You can call me, “Miscellaneous Me”

Precisely the reason why I hate labels!
Peace to ya on this Sunday, hon!

I have no idea what word defines me. I’m tempted to go delve into the depths of the dictionary to find one. Actually, I’m going to do that right now. Hmmm…

Nice post! I guess we are all a miscellany package – My whole me is just piecemeal!

Good use of the prompt…I couldn’t feel anything from the word…as for me I like to be called “Eclectic”
A mish mash of everything makes me whole and nothing less.
So why’d you delete the hold your tongue and say post????
I do have to wonder why I actually did it though :)
[Mishi]HAHAHAHAHA!! I did it b/c it was kinda stupid.. LOL

I didn’t realize that being a homeschooling Mama was one of your miscellaneous qualities. It is for me, too. But lately, as I’m nearing 40, I’m adding even more miscellaneous things to my life that I personally enjoy….not taking away from the mama that the family needs, but adding to the me that I need. I bet you understand what I mean.
[Mishi] Absolutely know what you mean, Shari.. It’s good to be all, then none, and then some extra of something else!!

I know what you mean. At least to my students, I am different!
Arty? Not me!!
