Valentine + Chocolate + Friends = Bliss

This afternoon, before we go to dinner with Mo and her kiddos, we are going to a bouncy house Valentine’s Party with our local home school group. We’ve never met any of these home schoolers so I’m hoping that we meet some new friends. Our time with Maureen’s family here is going to go by fast, and it makes me sad. I’m happy for her family, and all that is awaiting them, but I will really miss seeing her. Lord knows it’ll be a while before we can make it out west to visit, and vice versa.

While I joke about taking out an ad for friends, I know that–deep down–I am the one who has to seek out friendships. I have to put myself in local situations that will possibly yield some strong bonds. At best, I could meet my very next best friend. At worst? There is no “worst”. Meeting new people and making connections is always good. Good for me, good for the kids, good for us all.

In preparation for today’s outing I made chocolate chip rice krispy treats! At least, this way, I know there will be one treat there that is dye-free. But, I digress. Davey was getting ready to take his mid-morning bottle as I finished up the treats. He was crying, so I did what any good mom would do. I scraped up some melted chocolate on the wooden spoon and let him go to town. This is what developed:

Valentine’s is really like any other day, but today I’m hoping that it brings some new friendships our way! If not, at least there will be chocolate and friendship. With those two factors we are destined to have a blissful day. Happy Love Day–Everyday!

You can be mine, only if Davie will be 3of3′s.

  2. Flowers to you – just send the chocolate.

    What a cute pic!

    Happy Valentine’s Day.

I’m always trying to find friends, too. For some reason it just doesn’t seem to be as easy now that I am a mother as it was when I was younger and care-free.

Sigh…if only you lived near me. I would be your friend. Though, Davey probably wouldn’t like me, because I would steal that chocolate covered spoon right out of his hands. Now I have to go bake some cupcakes or something.

Now he’s covered in chocolate too? Yup, I’m definitely going to have to eat him.

Good luck with the group, honey! I’m sending out some “make some really good friends” vibes just for you.

i wish you lived closer, too – i’d be all up in that friendship hizzle.

especially given the snacks. mmm. snacks.

seriously, it’s really hard sometimes to make mommy friends. all of my true friends are in the suburbs; the ones i hang out with on a daily basis are just my age, with toddlers and we basically get along. not really anything inspiring. makes me feel more isolated, personally.
