The Phone Cam Chronicle

Atlanta to Buffalo.

4 kids.
1 mother.

15 hours.
890 miles.

In a van.
On the big road.

3 hours in–around 6:00am
Dawn approaches.

I welcome the dawn,
in a van full of sleeping children.

Soon we’ll see it.

That beautiful blazing ball of fire.

Later, the mountains are a marvel.
(Our favorite part of the trip.)

Snacks are plentiful.
Then we stopped in The Burgh.

Erie, PA!
Getting close.

Iced Coffee. A Must.

More sleep for Benjamin.

Another bottle for David.
(Mikey was my saving grace.)

CONTACT.
Houston, we have New York.

And, toes.

Seriously, it’s not that bad of a trip.
Some cringe. I, however, accept the challenge.
Gladly.

  1. You are a FAR better woman than I. FAR better.

I’d have whored myself for plane tickets.

Aw, excellent photo journal by phone cam. So awesome. I hope it was all wonderful. Sounds like it was.

  3. 05.07.2008

Oh, and I did *love* the pictures over at The Burgh. You and the kids are all just adorable and happy looking because only you could keep everyone look a fresh and smiley mid very long trip. You rock!

  4. 14 hours is a long drive. I grew up in Atlanta, and my parents and brother still live there. We drive about 11 hours (with stops/kids breaks) to visit. Looks like you had a good trip though, with some good helpers!

I love road trips. There’s nothing greater than getting in a car/truck and exploring the great wide open.

    Excellent photojournal!

  6. 05.07.2008

I love road trips too! We’ve done OKC to Sacramento in one 28 hour stretch. It was awesome.

  7. 05.07.2008

My trip is 8.5 hours…and I have a hubby that does NOT travel well…at.all. So it comes off being like 15. *G*

Looks like a great journey! Amazing how Erie is the be all “end of the road” sign for us, isn’t it?

I want to make the trip this year. Still don’t know with gas prices if we will. Maybe in the fall…

  8. 05.07.2008

I am a road trip junkie. I have yet to do it with kids in tow, but I am the first one to say lets drive..

    Love the piggy eating shot!!

  9. 05.07.2008

Holy schnizznap gurl! WTG! You RAWK!

I am in awe of your awesomeness.

AND I loved seeing you on the Burgh blog. So cute!

The photo series of the sunrise was very cool. I just wish I was still agile enough to get my foot to my head – not that I would or anything. =)

  11. 05.07.2008

You are INSANE! Daring and admirable, but insane.

  12. I’m 1. in awe & 2. so jealous that you met my future wife and step-kid before I did. As those posts were in the 800 I “marked as read” I didn’t get to see them.

  13. 05.08.2008

Wow, it looks like they did so well…last summer we barely lasted two hours before all hell broke loose.

  14. 05.08.2008

Looks like you had great weather for travel, good scenery, and a good crew with which to travel.
    Sunrise shots=beautiful. :)

  15. 05.08.2008

I still think you’re a little bit crazy, but your kids are every bit as awesome as you say they are. ;-)
