Silly Monkeys Can Swim
Our neighborhood does not have the luxury of a pool. It’s ok, though, because our town has a public pool, and for the sum of $100.00 we were able to buy our family a pool pass for the season.
Yesterday after we came home from dropping Papa off at the train, and Davey napped, we set off for our first visit. We went to the corner store to buy Davey a floatie (and to get Benny his Hot Wheels), and as we were paying we heard it. Like cats and dogs, it was raining. Hard. The kids all had this look of defeat, but I steadied their emotions.
“Don’t worry, guys, let’s just go!”
We got there and the skies cleared up. We swam for a little over an hour. The kids were gleeful.

This afternoon we went back from two to five. The kids swam, and swam, and swam, and swam. Davey an I enjoyed swimming around and watching all the big kids splash, jump, and dive off the diving board. Mikey had jumped off the diving board yesterday, so he had no qualm with it. Livey, though, wanted to jump and every time that she found herself at the end of the diving board she would shake her head, turn around, and get down. Then she’d find me with a disappointed expression, and I’d tell her that she could do it, that once she was ready to let me know, and that I would watch! Finally, she did it. She did it! Again, and again, and again, and again. That was all it took; one time and a diving board super star was born.
It’s going to be a fun summer, for sure.

Oh wow! I could go and have swim at the pool right now. That looks so awesome. Sigh.
That is so awesome that Livey conquered her fears. It looks that season pass was well-worth the investment.
Thanks for sharing your story!!!
I wish we had a pool… good for Livey!
How couragous of your daughter. What a way to start the summer! Go Mama for going to the pool despite the rain.
Would join town pool here if it were only $100. That’s a great deal. Take a dip for me.
yea! for the diving diva! Good job.
Wow. Great pics. I can’t believe how affordable that pool is. Here it’s 100 a month for our membership. It includes access to a gym, but still. What a great deal.
Some of my favorite childhood summer memories were swimming. That pool looks like it’s begging to be used. :)
tomorrow, i’m taking isobel to the local pool for our first swim in a year and only her third in her life. i’m scared poopless of the water, so should be all around good times :P
WAY TO GO Livey!! That’s awesome, Mish!
