Wordless Wednesday With Words
This is a favorite, traditional Macedonian salad. It’s called “Shopska Salata”, and it can make you want to drink the juice at the bottom of the bowl. That, or it will make you fight with family members over bread dipping rights. Best. Salad. Ever.
My Shopska Salad Recipe:
4-5 vine ripened tomatoes
1 English cucumber
1/2 onion
1 clove of garlic (or more)
sea salt, to taste
freshly cracked pepper, to taste
olive oil
feta cheese
The trick is to let it sit, a bit before it’s served, so that all the flavors can meld. It’s divine!
Some people make it with vinegar, but I prefer it without. Peppers have also been known to be added.

That looks absolutely dee-lish. I really dig stuff like this and I would totally be one of the people swatting hands away. lol

English cucumbers are usually wrapped in plastic when you buy them at the grocery. They don’t have that layer of wax, are usually seedless, and are easier to digest. I prefer them.
I’ve always had my own domain. I just changed my blog look!! :D

Yummers! Mouth-watering photography strikes again. :)
My family enjoys a similar salad, made with a wee bit of vinegar and sugar added, but . . . The cheese! I must add the cheese! That looks so good.

Oooh yummy! that looks divine!

I can already tell it’s delicious just by the ingredients, but I will totally have to try this. Salads like this really do taste excellent after sitting, so it’s probably perfect to make the day ahead of a picnic or something – well, except that then you’d have to share. And sometimes sharing sucks. :)

Beautiful picture, very colourful. Doesn’t look like anything I would eat, though… :-)

Gorgeous photo and looks delicious! I’ve been waiting for feta to go on sale again, since it is somewhat pricey…
I’ve been getting the traditional chunk and cubing it lately since that is the best price per ounce…do you recommend crumbled for this recipe though? Or is it just well-stirred?
YUM! Time to go to the store, methinks!

yummers- this is what I lived on when I lived on Mykonos. I try and eat it all summer! bliss. Great shot- I am salivating!

Al Pal, I think that any kind of feta is fine for this. I prefer to crumble it myself, but it’s really expensive. The grocery ran a special and 8oz of crumbled was $2.50, so I was all over that like white on rice!
