Best Shot: Fresh

When I was a little girl we’d go over the Peace Bridge, to Fort Erie, to the Ontario Bakery, almost weekly. There we’d load up on fresh baked rolls, olives, provolone, mortadella, and other delicacies. I can vividly recall sitting on the banks of the Niagara River eating a sandwich that was rustically exquisite. After lunch was consumed, we’d pack up and head back over the bridge to America, at which time I would have a sweet-treat to enjoy. Sometimes it was a chocolate bar, other times a cannoli, but there was always something. Memories like this never fade.

What a great story, and shot. Now I’m off to look for something sweet to eat :)
I would be in heaven!
Sweet. and sweet. Nicely done.
mmmmm…..fresh baked rolls with butter…oh, how i want a european style bakery in my walking distance now! darn it!
Now I am starving…
What sweet memories to post about. I love your creativity in taking the picture while the candy bar is in the back window of the car. You could not have tied the story and the photo together any better.
I’m not sure this was intentional or not, but I completely love the story of the sweet, with the mention of travel and the image of the sweet with the “open road” in the background. Rarely do words and image so strongly support one another. Pat yourself on the back.
I’ve never seen a Coffee Crisp before!! Why don’t they sell them around here? Now I want one!!!

I’m more in love with the mention of fresh cheeses and olives. (And its 8 am as I write this…) MMMMMM….
Sweet memories kept fresh from writings —- I’m new to 100 Words, but so far am enjoying myself immensely.
Oooh…we didn’t do the Ontario bakery, but we went over the Peace Bridge many a time for (beer) trips to the cottage (and beer)…and always alway always I had to get Smarties, Canadian style. Oy, M&M’s made w/ Canadian chocolate…pastels and bigger then M&M’s…yummm. We’d also get Aero’s just for the fun of saying we had a candy bar of air. And then we’d leave the cottage and grab some more (beer) candy…and head on home and go to Pumpernick ‘N Pastry for good polish bread (Placek). *sigh* Ah, those were the days. My brother likes to reminisce about going to the liquor store and watching the cases of beer rolled out to us on the lines of rollers…the fantasies of boys ;)
That was some coffee you just treated me to! I enjoyed the rest of the posts ( I missed them because I was in London) – while drinking it!
Lovely memory, and the previous posts, like the christening, they will be the memories of the future! Loved the ” family watching closely”.
They always do, don’t they?
Sheesh, I’m getting tired of telling you how awesome you are. Enough already!
What a great memory and I love the shot. My childhood candy bar of choice. Twin Dings. Cherry nugget surrounded by peanut-ty chocolate.
