Shine #1

You can turn off the sun, but I’m still gonna shine.

There sat six children on the trampoline. The trees shook fiercely as their minds conjured up a rabid dog, a wolf, or el Chupacabra; something sinister that way lurked.

“Did you see that?”

“No.”

“Did you hear that?”

“Yes, what was it?”

“Can you smell that?”

“It must’ve made a kill.”

“We should go in.”

“No, let’s wait, we have protection.”

“I wanna go in. Who’s coming?”

One by one they got off the trampoline. They were cautious to a fault. That’s when I rounded the corner. With a big roar and a camera firing.

“OH NO! RUN. FASTER. LIVEY.”

They did it to themselves. All afternoon long they would go out and come back in with stories of something creeping in the woods. I listened to their stories. I nodded in a concerned manner. I even advised them not to go back out. Instead, Mikey grabbed his air gun and the rest of the kids (Olivia, Benjamin, and the three boys that are staying with us this week) armed themselves with various toy rifles. Yeah, that was gonna work.

I watched them sit on that trampoline, pointing and huddling. It was hilarious! How could I not grab my camera? I put Davey in his high-chair, as to contain the climber that he has become, and off I went. Out the front door, around the side of the house. I paused to listen to the conversation. Just then the wind picked up and they began to haul ass into the house. I set my camera and roared, yelled and maybe even foamed at the mouth a bit.

I look at these pictures and laugh heartily. But I will let you in on a little secret: I was looking over my shoulder so the “beast” didn’t get me. Thank God I have lived to tell the story.

Project 365: Fini

At the end of this 365 journey I have been asked repeatedly Will you do this again?

To answer that question Yes, I will continue to take pictures. Yes, I will continue to blog. But, no, I will not be doing Project 365 again.

Maybe another year, down the road, I will jump with both feet into a 365, but subsequently I will not do the same thing. I will, however, be doing another project. It will be something totally different, and something that will bring my world and how I see, through my lens, to this blog.

I’ve also been dying to participate in the the Self Portrait Challenge. I thought it would be redundant to do it during Project 365. Now that it’s over, though, I am free to take the challenge. Actually,  this past week I did my interpretation of the current theme over at SPC; the theme was SHINE. I thought it quite apropos. This past year I feel that I have shined greatly. That might be presumptuous, but it’s how I feel. My confidence, my emotions, my photographic skills, my loves, my aches, my attributes, my e v e r y t h i n g has sparkled!

I thank you for being part of Project 365. Your comments have always made me feel awesome, and I’ve loved knowing that–in some way–I have made people feel welcome.

Stay tuned for more. I promise it will be just as cool and spectacular!

[Today I have been reading 'matt, liz and madeline' and I have to say that this is one life story that has touched me greatly. I can't stop thinking about the sadness that resides in Matt's heart with the death of his beloved wife, along with all the joy of his precious newborn daughter. Life can be cruel, but he is living proof that it goes on.

I'm normally a grateful person, but reading his blog today has made me especially so.]
