Best Shot: Stalker Mama

Davey is now 20 months old. Kinda hard to believe that–in four months time–he will be two. His vocabulary grows daily, along with his actions, and I’m quite convinced that we have another little genius here. I am biased, though, like the *gypsy with the sandwich.

His current obsession is with lights. Every flicker, every shimmer, every beam gets noticed. It’s pure joy; if only we could all see [the light] with his reckless abandon. I love this phase of toddlerhood, I do! Everything is so new and exciting. There’s a need to touch everything, a need to investigate without knowledge of the consequence of the action. If there’s a couch to be climbed upon, he’ll climb it. If there’s an open door to go through, he’ll go through. If there is, he’ll be. Irritating as it may seem or be, it’s a toddler’s rite of passage; with all of this comes a growth that is unstoppable. I see where it leads, I just don’t want [him] to get there so quickly.

*gypsy with the sandwich:

There’s a story about a gypsy taking lunch to her daughter at school. On the way, a villager asked her to take a sandwich to her daughter. The gypsy asked how would she know which child was hers? The villager answered that hers was the most beautiful child in the schoolyard. Once all the kids were out the gypsy looked around and spotted the most beautiful child; it was her own daughter who enjoyed two sandwiches that day!
