Best Shot Monday: Indian Summer
The days are noticeably shorter and the nights are noticeably colder. We wake up in the morning scrambling to put on socks and sweatshirts to keep warm. Leaves are scattered in the yard, while the trees try to hang on to the rest, but it is inevitable, autumn is here. The end of the year approaches, time never stands still.

I feel quieted around these times. Maybe it’s the knowledge that the year is closing? Though it’s probably the fact that [our] earth is preparing for dormancy. And I feel I must, too. There is no sense of urgency. Words seem to get lost. Like leaves they have fallen to the ground and have been swept away by the wind.

The afternoon sun of the Indian Summer warms up the hearth. Innocent voices travel, laughter persists, tongues get twisted easily, and all the while my heart dreams of the new beginnings that are starting to unfold. I long for the cold, winter mornings, when I will wake, slide into my sweater and slippers, and embrace my favorite mug of hot coffee.
And in those longings, you are there, and I am whole. In those longings, I am there, and you are whole.

Cozy autumn thoughts, Mishelle. :) I so copy that.
The foreground in focus was my favorite, though I can’t exactly say why.

it’s gone. any hint of summer has left the building where we are. we are spinning toward, aghghhghg, winter.

Even though we’re not far south of you, we don’t get many leaves changing, so this makes me feel like I’m missing out. :( But now I can live through it with you!
Beautiful!

Wow, nice shots, and oh so true. I find I feel the same way too. The weather here on the week end was around 0C/32F. Very crisp. It’s time to rake up the leaves, and start to hibernate. I always feel that way, when the dark sets in so early.

This IS it, isn’t it? The turning of the day to the warmth of home. Love these days. I daresay I might even love snow. (I can say this bravely on this side of snow.)

Nice shots they really tell a story. I like seeing things from a different angle like that.

Just the other day, I mourned fall to my husband. Wondering how death could be so beautiful. He reminded me that it is not the dying, but the retreating into ourselves, the quiet time when we summon all that is good and whole, to bloom in sudden spring. I thought of my babies wrapped in holiday paper, and fuzzy socks, and suddenly I wanted to will the snow. Every season has its time.

I’m really enjoying what you and your camera captured from this perspective! I wandered over from Shutter Sisters. Isn’t it amazing how differently we see things even when shooting the same things from the same perspective? Great shots!
