Out of Office (Wherein Office Means House)

I’m in Chicago today. Working.

Doesn’t that sound really professional and cool?   That’s cause it is!

There’s still time to enter the fancy purse give-a-way!

Fierce.

I can say this with pride:  I have fierce friends.

They’ve got it all; beauty, smarts, attitude, a funny bone, a keen fashion sense, awesome mothering skills, and a determination that makes me proud to call them my sisters.

Oh and they like purses*.  Ahhh, purses.  Who doesn’t like purses?

When I went to Type-A Mom Conference in September, I was lucky to be a part of a group of speakers who were invited to Dress Barn.  We were decked out, head-to-toe, with clothing, jewelery, shoes, and purses.

Anissa chose a sexy dress that *ehem* accentuated her stellar rack.   She worked that dress; it was seemingly made for her.

The next morning when we put on a little fashion show, for our fellow conference goers, Anissa was called up first.  She worked that stage.  She owned it.  She had this look on her face of strength, beauty, and wisdom.   She’s a total package, that one!

Anissa’s fierce.  Believe that.

(Check Anissa’s Hope4Peyton Blog for updates from her husband, Peter. And keep praying and sending out those awesome positive vibes for our friend.)

*Dress Barn sent me this great clutch to give away to one of my readers.  I got one, too.  A brownish one.  Oh, Michael’s gotta be thrilled that my “timeless” purse collection is growing.

Just tell me why you love your girlfriends, your sisters.

I’ll randomly pic a winner and announce it Monday, November 23rd.

I wish I could fold this up into one of those triangles that we used to fold our notes up into, and pass it to you in the hall.

Twitterifficissa

But now we have computers, so triangularly folded notes are so totally passe.  Plus we have Skype and Gmail and Blackberry (well you have Blackberry and I have a shitty EnV2, but I digress.)  I guess what I’m really trying to say is that I wish I knew you way back when [we] folded up pieces of paper that talked about how my crush was wearing Izod today, and–OMG–he so totally brushed up against me when he was reaching for his tray in the lunch line.

Here are some notes I might-could have sent:

Yo A!

Dude, can I borrow that scarf of yours?  The one you wore the other day with that purple sweater.   I promise to give it back and not keep it for an extended period of time; you know, like I kept that one necklace.   I mean, I did give that necklace back….eventually!

Catch you in Creative Writing.

A-bomb,

He was seriously checking you out.  I bet he’s going to ask you to the Homecoming Dance!   Which?  Is so totally cool because we can totally double-date.   Maybe we could get dinner at the Olive Garden?  Or Chi-Chi’s?  or Red Lobster?   I don’t care, just somewhere CLASSY!

And if he doesn’t ask you?  You throat punch him and I’ll kick him in the neck.

Oh shit!  Mr. K is on to me.

M-gun OUT!

Dear Anissa,

I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well.  It sucks not to see you, in the hall, between classes.   I’m wearing your scarf EVERY. DAY. OF. THE. WEEK. until you return.   Oh and look in the lower left corner of the card that I’ve sent you with this note.   Yes, that signature is from you-know-who.  He was totes concerned for you.  Everyone is!   We are all hoping you beat this thing soon.  We miss your jokes, your stories, your presence.   So, get well soon.  Ok?!

Love,
Mishelle

The moment I met her, in room 704, I knew that we’d be friends for a long, long time.

“Say it,” I breathed.

“Vampire,” she responded.

It was true love ever since.  And ‘ever since’ has brought a flourishing friendship—a trusted one, an accepting one, a valued one.  To know Anissa is to love Anissa.

We are going to be friends for a LONG, LONG TIME!

[As posted on Aiming Low]

As you may have heard, Anissa, our beloved friend and leader here at Aiming Low, suffered a stroke on Tuesday afternoon. She is in the hospital right now, in the ICU.

More than anything, Anissa needs your prayers and positive thoughts but to the many people in the Atlanta area who have offered help to the Mayhew family, we have set up a form for you to fill out so we can have everyone’s contact info in one place (please be assured your information will be kept private). If you are NOT in the Atlanta area but still want to help, you can also leave your information on that form.

Things that would be helpful right now are gift cards to restaurants and gift cards to the movies or to Blockbuster (to help keep the kids’ occupied) and gas/hotel gift cards for her extended family. We will be setting up a PO Box on Wednesday and posting the address here along with any updates. Please don’t send anything to the hospital or the Mayhew home. If you have questions, please email helpforanissa@gmail.com

We ask that you please respect the Mayhew family’s privacy by NOT calling the hospital and we thank you all SO MUCH for your outpouring of love and support for Anissa and her family.

With thanks and love,

The Aiming Low Team

Yesterday I tried to get a picture for our Christmas Cards (I have the ones I want picked out over at Tiny Prints, now I just need the picture.)   But not ONE of the group shots turned out because as Murphy’s Law dictates,  “A photographer shall not be able to photograph her own flesh and blood the same way she would photograph other people’s flesh and blood.

I did, however, get some decent “school” type pictures of the kids.

Friday I will try again, and hopefully when I update my Facebook status it won’t be with a “FAIL” rather a “WIN”!
