Weekly Winners {The Shallow Depth of Field Edition}
All of these were taken with my 24-70mm f/2.8, in AV mode, wide open at f/2.8. Off the top of my head I used spot metering for all of them. This first shot is the most post processed of the bunch. I have been trying not to over process my work, and it’s forcing me to know my stuff better. I found that the over-use of actions and pre-sets was allowing me to rely on it too much, which ultimately allows for a slide in photography technique. I do still adjust for white balance, exposure (which is minimal when metered correctly), contrast, and I strive for non-muddy black and whites. In my opinion there’s nothing worse than a muddy black and white photo!
Shallow depth of field shots are my favorite; I think I’ll always be a AV-girl!
{Now go visit my Blogher’10 ROYO cohort, Lotus, for more Weekly Winners. And go visit my friend Piper and tell her how beautiful she is. Oh, and while you are it, go visit Rachel and congratulate her on being Southern Living’s Blogger of the week. One more thing: Stay tuned over at Aiming Low where I’ll be having some photography articles coming up. They’ll be jam-packed with info for the budding photographer!}
The Perfect Spring Salad
I saw this salad on my good friend Rachel’s blog, last week.
A couple days later we discussed this salad on the phone.
The very next day I bought the ingredients I needed to make this deliciousness.
Here’s what you need:
- Baby Spinach
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Kiwi
- Craisins (dried cranberries)
- Walnuts
- Balsamic Vinaigrette
I decided to make it for dinner that night, and I served it with toasted baguette slices and tapenade (both of which I got a my local Trader Joe‘s—the one I travel 45 minutes to reach!)
