And The Winner Is…
Hello!
{is this thing on?}
Oh hi! Michael here.
I’ve been tasked, or bribed with sexual favors, to select the winner of the Kelly Moore bag. Counting and verifying entries is no way to spend the morning IMHO. Mishi claims that she has a lot of images to edit or something like that and she’s promised me certain things to motivate me to help her. I’m cheap and I’m easy, so here we go.
And the winner is… Judith Shakes!
Mishelle will be in touch with you soon. Congratulations!
Your Best Camera
I’ve often heard that the best camera you have is the one you have on you. I drove this message on my photography panel at BlogHer’10 in New York City, even!
Sure, Lola and Mustard Boy allow me to carry my camera in style, but sometimes it’s just not feasible to take it with me everywhere. I mean, for the most part I do take my camera everywhere–don’t get me wrong–I just don’t like to take it places where it’s safety is compromised.
Like, at the gynecologists because that’s just weird. And kind of gross.
Or, like, at our local swimming pool. I spend most of my time in the water with the kids and wouldn’t feel so great about my expensive camera sitting under my towels.
Another place I haven’t taken my camera is on bike rides or C25K training runs. Honestly, I’m just trying to breathe and survive. Snapping shots on my DSLR is furthest on my mind.
So? What’s a photogranerd to do?
Simple. Use the camera that’s always on [you].
Enter the modern day cellphone!
Various camera applications make it easy to take ultra cool, artsy-fartsy shots.
Cell phone cameras make it easy for you to keep telling the story of your day-to-day life through pictures. And the best part is that it’s always on you.
Personally, I like to send my pictures to my Posterous, but you can also send cell phone snaps to your Facebook, Twitpic, or even Flickr. For me, using Posterous, allows me to tell a cohesive story about my day-to-day life. I capture things that I normally wouldn’t with the camera on my phone, and it is presented in a way that flows quickly–just as the days of the week.
Another aspect of cell phone camera photography—that I absolutely love—is the fact that I can take quick self portraits. All to often, being a photographer and a mother, it’s easy to stay behind the camera. So, not only am I easily documenting my family’s life, I am able to document myself FOR my family.
Yes indeed, the best camera you have is the one you have on you!
How To Make Your Own Iced Coffee
Oh, how I love the place with the green straw.
Oh, how I don’t love paying over two dollars a cup, when I can get a 2 pound bag of nice, oily, delicious, and flavorful beans* for about ten dollars.
Here’s what I do to solve this little dilemma:
- I make a strong, strong, strong, strong, strong pot of coffee. Strong, did you get that? Usually it’s 2 TBSP of ground coffee per six ounces of water, but when making iced coffee (depending on how strong I want to make it) I use no less than 4 TBSP of grounds per every six ounce cup. For the whole pot that would be 3 cups of ground coffee. Sometimes I go over, but I’m just crazy like that!
- I, personally, don’t like to add sugar to mine, but if you are so inclined you should add the sugar in immediately after it is done brewing, while it’s still hot. If you add sugar, I suggest about a teaspoon per cup. (more…)
Motivation
Last week, in Walmart, while buying dog food, I kept getting these little messages.
The first one was simple. It read, “Just Do It.”
The next one expounded on that notion a little. It read, “Just Do It. And, Do It Again.”
Then, as I was walking to the van I saw the last one; the one that thoroughly spoke to me. It read, “Push Yourself!”
Odd to believe that I was getting little affirmations in the form of print on tee-shirts of other women.
Affirmations that I always need. Affirmations that you might need, as well.
++++
In June I started to do it. I pushed myself and kept doing it. I felt uncomfortable. I felt sweaty. I felt weak at times, too. But, I pushed more and started to feel strength. I still felt sweaty, but I loved it. With each peddle and step and crunch I proved to myself that I could do anything I put my mind to.
++++
No matter what your obstacle.
No matter what is holding you back.
Just do it.
No matter how long it takes.
No matter how many times you fail.
Just do it. And, do it again.
No matter if you’ve felt defeated in the past.
No matter if you’ve never believed you could.
Push Yourself.
++++
I’ll be your tee-shirt. I’ll motivate you.
I just ask as the same of you.
