Weekly Winners {Shades of Green}
“Beauty, sweet love, is like the morning dew, Whose short refresh upon tender green, Cheers for a time, but till the sun doth show And straight is gone, as it had never been.”—Samuel Daniel
Basically I’m just gonna walk the earth.*
UPDATED: The winner of my Kalsø Earth Shoes giveaway is….
CARRIE!

Congratulations, Carrie! May you walk in comfort and good health!
*From one of my favorit’est movies, ever, Pulp Fiction. Which? I think it’s time that we got this on disc so we can watch it over and over again. I’m looking at you, Michael Lane. Because the last time we watched it was on VHS. I mean, who has a VHS player anymore? And, remember when it was called a VCR. Shoot, we’re old.
Jules: “Basically I’m just gonna walk the earth.”
Vincent: “What’cha mean ‘walk the earth’?”
Jules: “You know, like Caine in Kung Fu – walk from place to place, meet people, get in adventures.”
Would you like to walk the earth in total comfort? One lucky reader will win a pair of these Kalsø Earth Shoes. These shoes are the original “negative heel” shoe that mimics walking barefoot in sand, helping to naturally position our body over our frame. It also allows us to have a better walking motion which helps improve posture and reduce joint stress.
And, they’re pretty.
Pretty historic, too!
I’m the type of shoe wearer that needs a couple weeks to break a shoe in, but not these. They were comfortable the moment I put them on, and having worn them three days I haven’t had one complaint.
Here’s what you need to do to be entered to win (I will pick one winner, randomly, on August 5th.)
All you have to do to enter is comment telling me that you “like” Kalsø Earth Shoes on Facebook and leave a comment on their wall saying that I sent you over (I will be checking, believe-you-me!)
[Disclosure: I was not compensated monetarily, in any way, other than being sent these wonderful shoes. The opinions stated are those of my feet alone!]
In Order of Appearance {Hometown Glory}

I loved [seeing] you all….
I loved celebrating. I loved laughing. I loved relaxing. I loved reminiscing. I loved back porch dining. I loved the hugs. I loved dancing. I loved the gin and tonics, the pizza and chicken wings, the Timmy Ho’s, and the Bison chip dip. I loved the weather. I loved the Festival burp. I loved the music. I loved the Girls’ Nights Out. I loved the impromptu pizza party. I loved the peace. I just loved everything about our visit, and our time together.
I love you all….
The Book
I saw the book sitting on top of the cradenza in the kitchen of my Baba and Dedo.
“Mozam da ja vidam knigata? (Can I look at that book),” I asked.
A few minutes later I was transported to a time when my tetas (aunts) would gather at our house. There was one teta who read cups that were, minutes before, filled with Turkish coffee, and there was this book that my mother kept in her possession for many years. These were the times when my cousins and I would huddle under the table, covered with one of those crocheted white table cloths from Macedonian, on top of a plastic one from D&K’s. It was dark under there and all we could do was sit still to hear the fortunes that were being told.
Times have changed. The children under the table now sit around the table, grown. We reminisce and tell the stories of our youth. We smile and laugh while watching our own children run around, even if those children are dogs and cats. We rejoice for those we love and respect, which, to me, is the key to being the best human being you can be.
When I saw that book I remembered that that was where the bonds of friendship grew, under a table where we dreamt of things to come, without even knowing.
And, at the end of my stay here, in Buffalo, this summer, my heart feels full. For it’s true, when you put forth positivity, you get it back, and you don’t need a book to tell you that is true; just look inside of yourself. It’s been there all along, and it’s perfectly acceptable to write your own fortune in a book of stories.
I Love What I Do. Do You?
I have dabbled in photography my whole life, though there was a period of a few years where all I did was take snapshots of my growing babies. In 2005, when I started my blog, I got back into taking photos. This sparked a new vision and my eyes started to see things differently. This vision allowed me to pursue the one thing in life that truly makes me feel complete. It doesn’t matter who or what I am taking pictures of, I am simply fulfilled with a camera in my hand.
Starting my photography business was the best (and hardest) thing I have ever done. There are so many photography businesses out there that sometimes it’s daunting, but I tell myself that if I stay true to my technique and style I will succeed. Slowly and surely I have!
This weekend I ran into an old family friend, and we were talking about my photography business. I said to her, “I just love what I do,” and she replied that with that sentiment I can do nothing but succeed!
I absolutely believe that if you love what you do, you are bound to succeed, and your customers and clients will see that in you and your business.
If you already have your own business or even if you are a big fan of some of your local businesses, check out Intuit’s Love a Local Business competition!
They are helping small businesses achieve their dreams. Each month Intuit will be giving away $25,000 to a deserving local business. And, in July they will be awarding $50,000 in grants to businesses in the two cities that get the most love. Your votes will determine the winners. You can even vote for ‘Mishelle Lane Photography’.
It’s been very exciting starting my own business, so I’m curious to know: What dream business would you love to start? By replying you will be entered to win an iPad 2!
