A Wish Granted
When we first moved to Georgia, in 2004, I reached out to a local mom’s group so that I wouldn’t just let myself hide in my air conditioned house watching TV or internetting all day. The “owner” of the group was a woman named Shelly with whom I became fast friends, and with whom I’ve remained friends. We don’t see each other all the time, but that’s all right because we both lead crazy-busy lives.
Yesterday was a special day for Shelly’s middle daughter Mattie. At six months of age it was discovered that Mattie has, what is considered, an orphan syndrome (which is quite rare) called Klippel Feil Syndrome. Along with countless surgeries Mattie has experienced hearing loss, and was recently diagnosed with Mitochondrial Myopathy. With that her body burns a ton of energy, the amount of energy that should be used for her muscles and organs. So she gets tired quicker, especially when she pushes herself too hard; the wheelchair that was once only occasionally used is now used more frequently.
The party was in honor of Mattie having her wish granted by the wonderful Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her wish was to visit Disney World!
Next week Mattie, her parents, and her siblings will be off to Florida to visit the Magic Kingdom.
I was honored when Shelly asked me to document the party, and here are some of my favorites from the day:

Mishi,
Thanks for being such an amazing lady, friend, and photographer. It was so sweet of you to come document the party for us.. and clearly needed since I left the house with no camera. lol. Thank you for being the kind of friend that I know I can call on anytime.. and that with our crazy lives it doesn’t matter how long it has been.
Love you,
Me
Make-A-Wish is such an amazing program!!! Oh I hope she has an amazing time on her trip. I know they’ll treat her like a princess. My nephew got a wish granted earlier this year, and while I didn’t get to be there for it… I heard it was an absolutely magical day.
By the way, LOVE the cowboy boots shot. I don’t know why, but I just adore that one.
Mishi, you have no idea how much I love you. Seriously. No idea.
There’s a list, somewhere, of Very Special People in the world. Your name is at the very top of that list.
Mishelle, you are a truly selfless person and continue to omit positivity into the world. You are beautiful, both inside and out, you have a loving and generous heart and I am so thankful to know you and have you in my life! I love that you were able to capture such beautiful moments at little Mattie’s party and I hope they have an absolute blast at Disney World!
