Brownie Revelation
Sometimes I have a hankering for something sweet and chocolaty.
These are the days I look for the stashed brownie mix in the pantry. These are the days when my family tells me that I’m the best mom for making brownies. These are the days when we don’t wait until our bellies settle to have dessert. These are the days when the house grows quiet while we enjoy our treat, savoring ever bite and being careful not to waste a crumb.
Sometimes I have a hankering for something different and daring.
These are the days I look inside myself and see what I have stashed. These are the days when my family tells me that I’m the worst mom for making them do their chores. These are the days when my belly is unsettled, full of butterflies and flip-floppiness. These are the days when the house is chaotic, messy, and noisy beyond belief.
If only life could be as simple as a brownie on a platter with an encouraging thumb’s up. If only life could be as easy as two eggs, oil, water, and a package of dark chocolate brownie mix. If only mixing it all up would yield something so delightful and consummate.
It’s not.
Life has thumb’s down. Life has us knee deep in shit. Life has all these ingredients that make [it] anything but delightful. Life has death, sadness, sorrow, and ill feelings. Life can suck.
And it does.
And somehow we get through.
Somehow.

Well said and photographed Mishelle.
I feel so badly for the Spohr family. That’s a hard pain. And it never really goes away.
YOU are amazing!
And thank you for the fantastic food shots. NOW I have to go find something to eat that looks as good as what you shot.
I need some brownies to go with my tears.
Amen to that sista!
Well done! And I am on the way to Staters to buy brownie mix ;) You are truly talented with that camera.
