Different. Like Me!

A while back I wrote about experiencing high blood sugar symptoms.  I wrote about how I heard my body whisper as if it were a maddening roar.

Yesterday I wrote, on Aiming Low, about my personal struggle with feeling like a “skinny girl” despite knowing that I am indeed not one.

Pictures don’t lie.

Neither do test results.

I have been on Metformin for almost 3 weeks now, despite adamantly not wanting to be, and while I still eat sugar, at times, I have been limiting it.   I’ve also been watching what kind of carbohydrates I eat, save the occasional baked potato.   I go back on March 1st to see what my new levels are.   They are also going to test my thyroid.

Yesterday I got a pair of Earth® Exer-Walk™ sneakers.  I will be wearing them daily, for one month, to see what kind of results I get, as part of the ‘Change Your Body in 30 Days’ challenge.  I normally don’t wear shoes in the house, but I am going to wear these.  I am also committing myself to 30 minutes of walking (if not more) and I also want to incorporate Wii Fit and/or Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds.  All while wearing my new kicks.

Small steps, they say.

I have to start somewhere.  I’ve been at the starting gate before.  I’m familiar with it.

And…I’m off!

[As part of the challenge I was provided with the Earth® Exer-Walk™ sneakers pictured above, but the opinions during the challenge–written posts and tweets on Twitter–are purely my own.]

I’m excited about your new healthy living journey. I’m here to support you! Yes, small steps are best when starting out. The trick is not overwhelming yourself so you can keep going. The diet I am on…I call it a “live-it” is very similar to the diabetic diet. Less carbs and refined sugars and plenty of #fuitsnveggies (that is our new Mamavation challenge to moms 7-8 servings of fruits andveggies perday). The extra exercise will do you good too and your shoes should give you a tighter booty. Wink. Wink. XXOO

It’s called “Taking care of YOU!!” – which is what we all demand of you. Those of us who love and care about you cant do it for you – you have to do it for you – for US!! – because we want you hale and hearty – we all want Mishi HUGS for a long, long time to come.

I’m always grateful when my friends take positive steps to better health, because I love them and want all of them around FOR A VERY LONG TIME. So, I’m proud of you and excited for you and am here if you need a cheerleader or a kick in the ass.

(And as for a tighter belly – I’d start even less intense than Jill…. I love sitting on a balance ball when I’m working on my computer – great way to strengthen your core and doesn’t feel too much like work).

    Love you.

My son was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic and was told exercising was the best thing he could do for himself, even more so than drastically changing his diet. Good luck with your walking routine, I hope you get fabulous results.

What an excellent journey you are on. Good for you. And, I have no idea why, but I still do not have your article for Picture Story. I have been slacking, too and not posting like I wanted to. Had some things going on that occupied a lot of my mind, but I am letting so I can live again.

I so understand this Mishi…I have PCOS and I have been taking Metformin on and off for months. I just can’t make myself take it when I know it’s going to make me feel icky. Today my Dr prescribed a smaller dosage to try out for a while. We have been eating sort of “south beach diet-ish” too. Your determination makes me want to take my medicine and go for a walk!

  9. Way to go!! Can’t wait to hear how your doing after the 30 day mark! You can do it!!

  10. You can dooo iiiiit!!!!

I’ve committed myself to walking during my lunch break on most work days.
45 minutes, and I listen to my audio book on my iPod.
I borrow the audio books on CD from the library, which makes them free. I rip them to my ‘puter, and then I convert them into iTunes compatible files and then I listen to stories while I walk. Most days I forget I’m even walking.

I did the metformin alone for years and saw no results, now I take Avandamet a combo of avandia and metformin, BUT I am a type 2 diabetic now. Even with the gym things have not gotten better for me SO for you I hope everything is a POSITIVE progression. I know people have them. Good luck sweets.

I’m there with you. Got on the scales this morning and it shocked me so bad I jumped off to see if one (or MORE) of the dogs was on there with me. Alas.. I was alone. So, here I go again. I too have been here before. I’m just hoping that this is my last time at the starting gate. Good luck and I’ll see you on the track!
