It’s 2012
It’s already January 5th. How in the world did that happen?
Here are some things that have been going on between the end of last year and the beginning of this new one:
On December 28th, Davey turned FIVE! Lucky boy, it was Moe’s Wednesday, and we all headed there for lunch. It’s our favorite place to go; not only because on Wednesdays kids eat free, but we totally love their food! After a week of having Michael gone, through Christmas, he was home and we all enjoyed our lunch together (which concluded with a visit to the Western store where Davey got one of those cute little stick horses, and I drooled all over the cowboy boots.
Oh, and he named his horse, “Horsey the Bomb”. Or Bob. Either or works, really!
Davey requested a cookie cake for his birthday. Five candles and one for good luck, yo!
During the last days of Christmas break I took each of the kids clothes shopping. Their Baba & Dedo sent them money for Christmas, and we decided that they would spend it on new digs.
We had a great time each day, eating lunch and shopping. The only day that was a little crazy was the day that I took Benny and Davey out, together, because, in my opinion, a five year old and an Outlet Mall DO.NOT.MIX.
I also started The Hunger Games! I’ve since finished it, and now I am waiting for Catching Fire to come in to our library. I hope it comes in today. I also want to publicly state that Katniss Everdeen is BAD ASS and totally trumps Bella Swan!
On New Year’s Eve we made a big pot of white beans with corn bread, had Mikey’s buddy over after their bid day of airsoft play, ate chips and dip, and Benny and I went outside and threw pop-its at the ground! I barely made it to midnight–guess I am getting old—but, I made it and we did out traditional “HAPPY NEW YEAR” shout out to the world from our front porch!
On new year’s day, I found myself in Webkinz hell with Livey and Benny (aka Justice, the evil store that still sells these stuffed animals.
A few days ago, Davey overcame his fear of spontaneously going down the hill on his bike, and rode in the cul de sac for over an hour. He is a big boy, after all.
It’s been a great start to 2012!
Weekly Winners {What I’ve Been Doing}
What. A. Week!
It started last Sunday with a trip to the airport. My mother and I exchanged kisses and seats, as she came in from Buffalo and I departed for Louisville. She was coming to help us out, to watch the kids, while Michael trained for his new fancy-shmancy pilot job. As for me, I went to “Loovul” to do some fancy-shmancy photography work for Where Women Cook during GE Momsperience. Not only was it an opportunity to do what I love, it was an opportunity to see familiar faces as well as meet new ones. On top of that I got to have fun AND turn thirty-seven. The night of my birthday was spent at Churchill Downs, where there was a party just for me (or so I pretended.) I mean, you can’t not pretend that 25 beautiful women (dressed to the nines with beautiful Derby inspired hats) aren’t all gathered just for you—Mint Juleps in hand!
Louisville is a beautiful city, and I was glad to add it to my list of visited cities!
I came home on Tuesday afternoon. Michael picked me up from the train station, and we stopped for a bite to eat. I can’t tell you the last time that Michael and I (JUST Michael and I) had a meal, out, together. It was really nice, and I want to do it again. Sushi, perhaps? I digress…
After our bellies were full and the horrendous GA400 traffic died down we proceeded to get me to the second last Tech Week practice for Alice. I was excited to see my full costume for my role of the Duchess. The costumer, Jeannie, was there to help me get it all together, and I was thrilled. We went through practice, in full make-up, and it felt so good to be on the stage. After a quick hour-and-a-half we left the school and Michael and Davey were waiting to pick me and Livey up. Davey gave me his requisite, “I missed you, Mama!”
The next few days were spent hanging out with my mom and the kids. We shopped, we went out to eat, we had lunch at the lake, I learned how to make spinach strudel, and on Friday our first show was on. Mama, Mikey, and Benny came to see us on opening night. My friend Donna and her husband came to see us, too! It was wonderful and I am definitely bitten by the acting bug. Today is our Sunday matinee show, and I’m sad to see it come to end. I can’t wait to try out (and land a part) in the next show. I think I could pull off Miss Hanigan, don’t you?
Here are some pictures from my week. Also, make sure you look at the end of this post for information on some other cool things I’m doing…

Photohunt: Wide
“Wide”
As in, “Open wide!” The kids all had their bianual cleaning at the dentist. They did exceptionally well and there isn’t a cavity in sight. Olivia’s teeth are so perfect, but that child brushes her teeth with such a vigor, it’s not even funny! Davey is getting a lower canine and Dr. *le sigh* Charlie said that might cause him some pain because of how it’s coming in. Benny was extremely lucky and got to keep a magic bouncy ball that Dr. Charlie gave him AND he even cleaned Benny’s teeth for him. I personally have never seen a dentist do a cleaning. He was awesome with him, too. Usually Benjamin gags, but not with Dr. Charlie. As for Mikey, he had four teeth on the right side that were loose and required pulling. Mikey was fearful because the last time he had an extraction (in Buffalo) it was a really bad experience. This time, though, Dr. Hubba Hubba and his assistant were so awesome. He had “sleepy bubbles” to knock the edge off and never even knew that he got a couple shots to numb his gums completely.
Growing Old Together
Dearest Michael,
This is the fourteenth birthday that I am blessed to commemorate with you. Fourteen years that I am thankful that your mother gave birth to you and raised you so well. Fourteen years that seem so minuscule compared to the number ahead of us.
Look at how young we were. Babies. I hadn’t seen more than the city of Buffalo when you came into my life. Sure there were vacations to a few beaches, but I was so naive and sheltered. It’s a wonder that you came into my life when you did. Who knows? What if?
I feel, though, that no matter what, we were destined to cross paths. I hold within me a strong belief that destiny is destiny and there’s very little messing with it.
Now look at us! Four kids, two dogs, three major moves under our belts, and your successful career change.
Sure we’ve had our share of depressions, mistakes, and broken remotes, but we’ve had way more good times than bad. The most amazing thing to me, though, is how we just get each other. I still think you pick on me too much. OK, so I really like it. Go figure?!
So, on your 39th birthday (I’m sorry to say it, baby, but let it be known that you look really good for a thirty-nine year old man) I want to wish you even more happiness, even more love, even more prosperity, even more orgasms, even more good times, and even more birthdays with me by your side.
Happy Birthday, Michael!
You’re my favorite.
Love Always,
Your Mishelle
